Would Dwight Schrute go green at "The Office"? Well, we'd like to think so... After all, he does moonlight as a beet farmer and therefore has a deep connection to Mother Earth. (www.blog.nbc.com/DwightsBlog/)
Another thing about Dwight is that he believes "knowledge is power." So, in honor of Dwight and Mother Earth, we offer the following tips to empower you to "green up" your workspace.
1) Print on both sides of the paper.
2) Reuse discarded papers for one-page printouts. Example: Save misc. fax printouts and reload your printer with them.
3) Save and file your e-mails instead of printing them.
4) Check with your ink/toner providers to see if they take used cartridges back for recycling. If not, some FedEx/Kinko's locations have recycle bins for used cartridges. (Also, check online to see where your city accepts drop-offs.)
5) Turn off computers, printers and other electronics at the end of the day. Power surges with a switch are the best way to make sure your electronics are not consuming energy while turned off.
6) Set up computers to go to sleep after being idle for 15 minutes.
7) Bring your lunch to work in reusable containers to lessen the amount of takeout containers going to the trash.
8) Recycle old computers and electronics. Check with your city's Web site to find out where such recycle centers are are located.
9) Buy a water filter instead of bringing plastic water bottles to work.
